Galoya National Park

Summary

Gal Oya National Park is one of the major eco-tourism venues that has rich in flora and fauna. The 25,900-hectare park has about 32 species of mammals including Common Langur, endemic Toque macaque, Leopard, Sloth Bear, Elephant, Wild Boar, Water Buffalo and 3 species of deer. For birding enthusiasts, approximately 150 of Sri Lanka 's 430 species of birds have been observed in this region. Gal Oya National Park is famous for its boat safaris and the swimming Elephants that swim across the lake to the islands in search for food. Cultivate trees and collect plastic and polyethene garbage during these experiences to conclude a responsible Camping tour in one of the undiscovered national parks of the country.

Important tips
  • This is an adventure base camping experience that has the basic amenities for lodging.
  • Please bring trekking shoes and comfortable clothing.
  • Each client has to plant 3 trees in the selected locations.
  • Each guest should collect all plastic and polyethene garbage during the trekking and give them to the camp manager or naturalist.
  • Please don’t bring plastic bottles, polyethene bags and any other garbage materials to the campsite.
  • The climate here is tropical. The winters are rainier than the summers in Galoya. This climate is considered to be as according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The average temperature in Galoya is 27.2 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 1497 mm.
